A team from Uganda Civil Aviation Authority participated in the 65th International Federation of Air Traffic Controllers Associations from April 20-24, 2026 in Bucharest Romania at which the hosting flag for the next Annual Conference was passed on from Romania to Uganda amidst applause from the over 400 participants

The discussions focused on air traffic management, safety and the future of aviation under the theme       “Air Traffic controllers: attract them, value them and keep them.’’

The Authority’s Manager Public Affairs, Vianney Luggya delivered to the delegates a power point Presentation about the planned arrangements for the 2027 IFATCA Conference in Kampala tentatively scheduled for April 12-16, 2027 highlighting the visa modalities and the country’s tourism opportunities among others.

The 65th “Annual Conference of the International Federation of Air Traffic Controllers’ Associations (IFATCA)” opened in Bucharest, an event was organized by the Professional Association Of Air Traffic Controllers Of Romania (RATCA) and the Romanian Air Traffic Services Administration (RA ROMATSA).

The official opening of the Conference was marked by speeches delivered by representatives of the authorities and institutions with responsibilities in the field of civil aviation, namely Mr. Irinel-Ionel SCRIOȘTEANU – State Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, Mr. Adrian COJOC, Director General of RA ROMATSA, Mr. Virgil DINU, President of RATCA, Mrs. Claudia VIRLAN, Head of the ATM/ANS Service at AACR, as well as Mr. Ioan MISCHIE, Flotilla Air General within the Romanian Air Force.

The Conference brought together over 430 air traffic controllers representing 85 IFATCA member associations from around the world, making it one of the most important professional forums dedicated to civil aviation and air traffic safety.

This year’s Conference theme, “The Controllers – Attract them, Value them, Keep them”, reflects the industry’s major concerns regarding the attraction, motivation, and retention of air traffic control personnel in an ever-changing global context.

By hosting this event in Bucharest, Romania reaffirms its active role in supporting international dialogue in the field of civil aviation and professional cooperation among specialists involved in ensuring the safety and efficiency of air traffic. The conference proceedings will continue in the coming days, with an agenda including technical debates, thematic sessions, and experience-sharing on current challenges and development directions in air traffic management at a global level.
