The Uganda National Farmers Federation (UNFFE), an umbrella farmer’s organization NGO founded in January 1992, has accused the outgoing Secretary General, Mr. Ocitti Tom Oryema of abuse of office after he allegedly attempted to sale the Federation property which houses the head office at plot 27 , Nakasero Road, in Uganda’s Capital Kampala.
According to sources , trouble is boiling for the Oryema who joined the board in 2019 after reports emerged that he has been at the forefront , looking for investors to controversially sale the property.
‘’Reports indicate that the farmer from Nwoya has also been to Jinja frequently to sell plots but when they disagreed with the board and President Dr Dick kamuganga openly, he went around to look for better investors’’, a source told this publication.
Another source which preferred anonymity also intimated that the Oryema is always under the influence of alcohol and this could be reason for his erratic decision to resign. This wasn’t the first time and he is likely to return and apologize.
In his resignation Oryema claimed that he was compelled to when he is composed, healthy and of sound mind.
‘’I have painfully made this decision this month because the month of April is my birth and memorable month .However, as a legal personality and a senior law abiding citizen with vast knowledge on institutional operation, I feel obliged to place my resignation letter to the Federation on this 20th April 2026 because of the following’’, stated Oryema.
Under his leadership, there have been scandals which reflect a persistent pattern of corruption and misuse of resources, undermining trust in the institution and highlighting the need for more effective anti-corruption measures in the farmers body.
Efforts to get a comment from Dr. Dick Kamuganga, the President of Uganda Farmers Federation were futile by press time .
