In a remarkable humanitarian effort, thousands of people attended a weeklong medical-surgical camp in the 3rd week of September, 2026 organized by the The Soul of My Footprint (TSOMF) in collaboration with their partners which brought together doctors, specialists, nurses, pharmacists and other healthcare professionals who provided free medical consultations, diagnosis, treatment and health education.

The medical camp held at the TSOMF hospital in Namiyagi Village ,Wakisi Division Buikwe District near Jinja, drew large crowds as early as 8:00am, with people of all ages turning up to access a wide range of medical services. These included general diagnosis, screening and management of non-communicable diseases, dental care , eye care, and treatment for various conditions.

Mr Alfie Jelks, the founder of TSOMF, commended everybody who participated and contributed to the activities, including the Ugandan and American teams, emphasizing the importance of serving humanity with love and compassion. Alfie explained that just as nature provides essential elements freely, they aim to give back to the world.

Alfie also thanked the members who traveled from the United States and sacrificed their resources and time to show love to the African communities during the outreach.

Ms Eva Birungi Kigenyi, the country coordinator for TSOMF, hailed the team for this collaboration, which underscores the shared dedication of American people and the Ugandan community in enhancing healthcare access and fostering community health through humanitarian efforts. She emphasized the profound impact on the local population, highlighting that many residents could not afford the medical bills for such services and surgeries.

We are dedicated to providing basic health care to people in remote areas where there is limited public transportation to reach hospitals. We strive to ensure that as many ill people as possible can be examined by trained medical professionals, and when prescribed medications, they can obtain full doses of medication. And those patients with complex illnesses are appropriately referred.

The organization also distributed other assorted items, including food and shoes, among others. This is not the first time TSOMF is donating items and offering free treatment to the communities in Uganda.

Over the last twenty years, what started as a stream of water has developed into an ocean, following the testimonies from poor families who have received specialized care courtesy of TSOMF and their partners, including Map International.

Many vulnerable people, especially children, women, and the elderly have benefited from several projects piloted by TSOMF in Jinja and the neighboring villages.

Patients have been walking miles to access the already congested health facilities, with expectant mothers and the elderly affected more.

The 27 members who travelled from USA for the 2026 Uganda outreach are; Sylivia Reed, Alfie Jelks ,Princess Crittenden ,Brandi Smith, Regina Mitchell, Rachel Banks ,Ruth Carpenter, Florencia West,Angella Hammond,Katrina Denson, Beverly Dickson,Catherina Patricia Thomas,Dee Norris ,Tacara Hamingway,Keyondra Burton ,Tracy Morning ,Curtis Hugh Morning, Bonita Alvarez, Morris Alvarez, Tiambi Walker, Reico Walker,Latoya Nelson,William Harold Mayweather MD, Brittini Griggs, Louise Freshley, Frederica Edwards and Maldvina Anderson.

Some of the Ugandan medical team and support members included ; Sarah Kharono, Joy Nambubi, Edrine Okecho, Lyton Kyoyagala,Francis Wetaka,Jolly Semei , Emmanuel Mugaya, Brian Kabbale, Allan Ssebunya,Sabiya Wangoye, Fahad Ssemwegoerere,Karim Matovu,Isaac Oriokot,Andrew Sembela among others.

According to the report from the organizers, 52 mothers received Antenatal Care, 2 delivered from the hospital labor suit, while 225 were immunized, 21 received dental services with 11 extractions, and 4 referrals were done. In total, the medical camp saw a total of 856 people attended to by the team.

Dr Bland Holds a BS in Zoology obtained in 1974 at George Washington University, MD 1982 at Howard University College of Medicine, Internal Medicine in 1985 from Howard University.

Dr William Harold Mayweather, MD , also praised the partnership and unity and dedication among all members , emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts in extending services closer to communities.

Mayweather holds a BS in Pharmacy from UGA. He attended Howard University School of Medicine. Training in University of Cincinnati Department of Anesthesia. Practice anesthesia over 30 years Columbus, GA.

Dr . Tracy Morning (Pharmacist) from Atlanta, Ga and Dr Bonita Alvarez (Pharmacist) from Texas.

Mr Allan Masongole , the incharge of the 2026 Medical Camp, said the medical camp offered a range of vital services, including eye care, dental treatment, surgical consultations, as well as HIV testing and screening.

‘’Hundreds of residents turned up to receive professional medical attention, with many saying it was a life-saving camp commending the qualified health workers. Health professionals and volunteers worked side by side throughout the outreach, ensuring patients were attended to with dignity and care as long queues formed from early morning hours’’, Allan remarked.

Local beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the free services, noting that many would otherwise struggle to afford medical care because sometimes simple illnesses get worse and result in serious life-threatening complications.

TSOMF has, over the years, committed to providing lifesaving treatments for common illnesses to Buikwe and Jinja communities that do not have access to public transportation to attend hospitals.
The Soul of My Footprint was founded in 2000 by Alfie Jelks and established as a non-profit in 2012. Its primary objective is the propagation of on purpose and provisional supplies of medicine, clothing, and basic care items for the people of Jinja.
Other aims include the provision of scholarships for academically wise high school seniors planning a major related to science, social services, education, theology, or non-profit work with origins of humanitarian means in order to further carry out the primary objectives of the organization.
